1Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, 2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” Hebrews 12:1-2 NIV “
Hebrews 11 gives an incredible account of many people that have gone before us and all that faith accomplished for them. Paul shared this as an encouragement for us and to remind us that their faith reached into our generation and beyond.
The power of faith was demonstrated over and over again! A power that simply requires us to believe and trust in God’s Word in full confidence.
- Subdued kingdoms
- Administered justice
- Obtained promised blessings
- Closed the mouths of lions
- Extinguished fires
- Escaped the sword
- Won strength and restraint
- Won battles
- Received resurrection
And these were the things Paul said he didn’t even have time to talk about! He had already covered the examples of faith in Abel, Noah, Abraham, Sarah, Jacob, Joseph, Moses’ parents, Moses, the entire Israelite nation and Rahab. I have to remember that there are many who have gone before me, on my behalf, in faith.
Lord, give me more faith. I want to place complete trust in You for all things. Teach me. Show me.
