“If this man were not from God, he could do nothing.” John 9:33 NIV
That pretty much sums up the New Testament. Jesus had all the power and authority in heaven because He was perfectly obedient. He always did what His Father told Him to do. He always said what His Father told Him to say. And nothing more. He totally walked in the Holy Spirit. He tucked Himself away in prayer to commune and consult with God to make sure they were always in sync. Obedience did not always come without pain. Look at the cross. Why do we think that we will not have to give up a few things ourselves?
It is better to be obedient that to offer a sacrifice. He delights when we follow Him, depend on Him, engage with Him, listen to Him. Listening is highly under-rated. When we are quiet and listening there is a lot to hear! God wants to engage with us. That’s what we were made for. When have an obedient heart, a heart that truly yearns to show God how much we love Him by yielding to Him, the power and grace comes. When our agenda becomes His agenda, there is a divine flow. Doors open for us to walk through. We see favor that is unexplainable. We see God move. When we step into not our will, but His.
Father God, let me operate in Your will instead of mine. Let me yield and rely on Your power.
