Fruit Of Discipline

Embed from Getty ImagesFor the time being no discipline brings joy, but seems grievous and painful; but afterwards it yields a peaceable fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it [a harvest of fruit which consists in righteousness—in conformity to God’s will in purpose, thought, and action, resulting in right living and right standing with God]. Hebrews 12:11 AMP

Discipline looks different for everyone.  There are basic principles that reflect stability, integrity, dependability, etc.  Some of these practices come easier for some than others. Discipline always requires obedience of some sort.  We submit to a change in practice to adopt a new one.  We let go of the old to accept the new.  It may require partnership and accountability to break an old habit and adopt a new one.  It may require humility and submission. Conformity. Sacrifice.  It requires giving something up.

I love the fruit of discipline referenced: right living and right standing with God.  In my mind that means peace, joy, abundance, grace, mercy, love.  These are what we gain.  We gain a new life filled with the richness that God always intended for us.

Father, show me what I need to let go of so that I can move forward.  Help me be disciplined in pursuing a life of faith with You.  Instill in me a desire for the fruits of discipline.
