“The heart is deceitful above all things, and it is exceedingly perverse and corrupt and severely, mortally sick! Who can know it [perceive, understand, be acquainted with his own heart and mind]?” Jeremiah 17:9 AMP
This verse struck a chord of fear in me. It references our heart in the context of decision making. Only God can protect us from our deceitful heart. Holy Spirit is our counsel. By listening prayerfully we hear the voice of God: sometimes loudly and clearly, sometimes through a subtle nudge, sometimes through someone else! We can know by the peace and certainty in our heart that it is from God. It will be without mental gymnastics. It will be without our minds racing to reason our way through it. It may be without any understanding at all except to do what He asks of us. He clears the path. We just have to wait and watch for God’s favor and His open door. When we see it, we have to be willing to take that first step, just like the Israelites at the Red Sea. Then God will part the waters before us so that we can move forward.
Father, thank you for Your divine direction. I pray that I will seek You in all things with a willing heart to take that step when You clear the path for me.
