5 For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; 6 and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; 7 and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love. 8 For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 2 Peter 1:5-8 NIV
As I read these verses, the words started to run together. Perhaps the words were familiar but I needed to pay special attention to them so that I did not discount them. The words were familiar, but the structure of the verses led me to believe that this was a special recipe that I needed to pay attention to.
Recipe to Fully Partake of God’s Great Promises
In a large container add:
- A helping of faith
- Goodness (virtue, excellence, resolution, Christian energy)
- Knowledge (intelligence)
- Perseverance (patience, endurance)
- Godliness (reverence, respect, awe and devotion for God)
Mix well. Then stir in mutual affection and love until light and fluffy. Then you will have a Christian experience filled with not only these ingredients, but with power! Enjoy!
Father, help me release anything from my past that is weighing me down. I don’t want to drag around past accomplishments, milestones, performance like a ball and chain. There is nothing worth hanging onto except for You. I look forward to all things new that lie ahead with You.
