For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love. For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 2 Peter 1:5-8 NIV

As I read these verses, the words started to run together.  Perhaps the words were familiar but I needed to pay special attention to them so that I did not discount them. The words were familiar, but the structure of the verses led me to believe that this was a special recipe that I needed to pay attention to.

Recipe to Fully Partake of God’s Great Promises

In a large container add:

  • A helping of faith
  • Goodness (virtue, excellence, resolution, Christian energy)
  • Knowledge (intelligence)
  • Self-control
  • Perseverance (patience, endurance)
  • Godliness (reverence, respect, awe and devotion for God)

Mix well.  Then stir in mutual affection and love until light and fluffy.  Then you will have a Christian experience filled with not only these ingredients, but with power! Enjoy!

Father, help me release anything from my past that is weighing me down. I don’t want to drag around past accomplishments, milestones, performance like a ball and chain. There is nothing worth hanging onto except for You. I look forward to all things new that lie ahead with You.

1 Peter 3:1-11, Revelation 21:5
