“Brothers and sisters, we ask you to show appreciation to those who are working hard among you and those who are your leaders as they guide and instruct you in the Lord—they are priceless.” 1 Thessalonians 5:12 The Voice

When we are watching others working hard, it’s so easy to sit back and criticize.  Expectation of others increases. Accountablity for self decreases.

Jesus taught us to serve not watch. He showed us how to become a working part of community. He taught us to seek unity; to become one body operating interdependently in our gifts and talents.  Jesus taught us to encourage and support each other, respect and submit to leadership and exercise patience with every person – in all things. He modeled how to live in community, serving each other and reaching out to others. We were made to contribute our gifts and talents to each other.

Father, let no murmuring come out of my mouth, only encouraging words. Jesus, You are the Way and the Truth and the Life. In You I am set free.

1 Thessalonians 5:11-15, 2 Samuel 21:1, John 8:31-32, John 14:6
