“This Book of the Law shall not depart out of your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, that you may observe and do according to all that is written in it. For then you shall make your way prosperous, and then you shall deal wisely and have good success.” Joshua 1:8 AMP

In the footnotes for this verse in the Amplified Bible it reads:

“This is the only place in the early English versions where the word “success” is found. The secret of success is given in verses 5 through 9. Joshua accepted Moses’ place of leadership without misgivings. God’s will for him was his will, and he did not hesitate. To go “all out” for God was already habitual with him; it is the unfailing prerequisite of eternal success .“

I love the book of Joshua and love the stories of he and Caleb in particular.  My heart yearns to be a sold out warrior like they were.  They understood the power of obedience.  It was the key to their success in conquering every kingdom in Canaan.

When I look at verse 8, I find a formula for “good success.” Joshua told the people of Israel to (1) meditate on the Word of God constantly.  Then he told them to (2) do it; be obedient.  This invokes  the promise that follows, “and then you shall deal wisely and have good success.”

It takes strength, courage and persistence to dwell and meditate in God’s Word day and night, constantly. It takes great discipline, wisdom, courage and faith to then do everything He asks. I know I can’t do it on my own.  I’m so thankful for the renewal and forgiveness that Christ provided. It gives me hope and faith to continue this journey deeper into that intimate place where God becomes my everything. I have to be honest. I’m not there yet!  But it is my aspirational hope.  And I know that He loves me anyway.  For me, I just want to experience the fullness of everything that He has in store for me.  Every drop!

Father God, give me the strength, courage and persistence to dwell and meditate on Your Word day and night. Constantly. Help me to do everything that You ask of me. Then I will have good success!

Revelation

Tropical island, Thailand

“1 The revelation from Jesus Christ, which God gave him to show his servants what must soon take place. He made it known by sending his angel to his servant John, who testifies to everything he saw—that is, the word of God and the testimony of Jesus Christ. Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear it and take to heart what is written in it, because the time is near.” Revelation 1:1-3 NIV

The image of John receiving this message from the angel of God is a powerful one. Wow. To see and hear from God like John – that would be incredible.

So what does it take to hear from God this clearly? Be still. I think we also have to know how much God loves us in order to fully trust what we hear.  It is critical for us to know how deep and how true He loves us.

We will be tested.  We will need to stand firm; stand firm in His life and His love.  We will be faced with ugliness. Darkness will be all around us.  In those times, the hard times, we need to trust God.  Trust His love for us.

Father, help me stand.  Help me simply stand firmly next to You. Hold my hand. Never leave me or forsake me.  I know You never will because You promised.
